Mo's Spew

HATS, HOPS & HUCKS - 24:00 - July 18 & 19, 2015

""It'sAbout Time!'

Please check it out and (re)familiarize yourself with our format -

Here's some stuff to know. Not only are there no refs, but no team captains, so extra responsibilities will be falling on individuals (read: YOU) in order to pull this whole thing off.

REMINDER: When you sent in your cash you agreed to:

1) Be on time
2) Recycle
3) Carpool
4) Bring your own utensils
5) Have fun.

THEME - This year's theme is "It's About Time!". All team names will relate to TIME; clocks, gears. Since you will be finding out what team you're on early, you are highly encouraged to bring whatever costume items you have in order to increase the FUN.

T-SHIRTS - Each player receives a tourney t-shirt, color-coded for their team. Please also bring a White shirt to use in the event your team comes up against another team of similar color (like when you are in the semis :) I order the right number of sizes for all players, but if you are a late arrival you just might not get your specified size. This should be some incentive to arrive early, which makes the whole event run smoother anyway. It also gets you a free tourney disc (Sign in before Sat. the 18th at 9:00am and its yours).

REGISTRATION - CAMPING - PARTY

We return to the Santa Madre Center, south of the town of FELTON - Right where we were the last few years. What a complement to be invited back again! (Directions below)

CARPOOLING - PARKING - Please fill up your car ! You can set up your tent anytime after noon. There's a great disc golf course just a few miles from our camping zone (Black Mouse). Parking at the campsite will be tight. Think about leaving your car at home. Join our facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/HatsHopsHucks/251955654831490?fref=ts) and arrange a lift or advertise for riders - USE IT make a new friend.

REGISTRATION - (and free disc) - Registration opens Friday night at 6 p.m. as we tap the first keg of the tourney: The Santa Madre Center - 645 Toll Gulch Road, Felton, Ca 95018. We will keep registration open until 10 p.m. It really helps the tourney run more smoothly if folks register Friday night. Come meet your teammates and get started on your fun! Please be sure your UPA dues and waiver are current - check that out at: http://www.usaultimate.org> Be a current UPA member or be ready to part with some cash ($12 for the weekend only, $50 student and $50 regular yearly fee).

Sign in before 9 a.m. Saturday and receive a tourney disc.

Saturday morning Registration continues at 8:00 a.m.at Highland's Park, 8500 Highway 9, Ben Lomond, CA 95005. Breakfast will be there too, running 8:00 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. Breakfast will end at 9:00 sharp - REALLY !!!! No Hat means No Food - and REMEMBER THOSE EATING UTENSILS. This only gives you 30 minutes to get to your fields and get your games started. PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN. Lots of folks have paid their cash to play, not to wait for you. This tourney is unique in that each individual has to do their share to pull it off. First round games start at 9:30 am and will be capped at 11:15.

PLAYER CARDS - Each player gets a card at registration that entitles them to all kinds of stuff: camping, meals, beer, party. It has your game schedule too. You're gonna need it all week-end, so
please keep it with you.

MEALS - Friday night meet and greet Pizza and Beer. MMMMMM - bring your mug. We're also feeding all the players breakfast Sat. & Sun. and dinner Sat & Sun as well - tHAT's a lot of food. In order to cut down on waste (and cost) the tourney will not provide any utensils (no forks, no knives, no spoons, no cups, no plates, no kidding). Either bring your own or be prepared to eat with your fingers off an old disc and scrounge through the garbage for an old jelly jar while others are scarffing and quaffing beer. Sat. a.m.: Brecky at the main field sight - Highlands Park. This will be a pancake & egg meal served by our local Senior Citizens w/coffee & juice. Sun. Breakfast will be prepared by Blue Sun Catering - mmmmm gooooood ! (also at Highlands Park). The focus of on-sight food is getting the games started on time so we can avoid time caps. - Bring your own utensils.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE - We have all become increasingly more familiar with this phrase - here's what it means at HHHXXII: Fill your car. No cars should be arriving without maximum capacity. - CARPOOL - use facebook to connect. We will not be providing plates, cups, eating utensils ... bring your own. NO GLASS IN THE PARK ! HAT RULE
YOU'RE NOT A PLAYER WITHOUT A HAT
(This rule is governed by S.O.T.G.) Clarifying statements:

CATCH W/OUT A HAT = TURNOVER.
THROW W/OUT A HAT = TURNOVER.
"D" W/OUT A HAT = UNCONTESTED FOUL
REMOVING ANOTHER PLAYER' S HAT = "HAT STRIP !".

(If you make the catch and THEN your hat falls off ITS A TURN ! So if you've got the disc and not a hat - "turn" - get it ?) EVEN IN THE ENDZONE

HAT defined by Webster's New World Dictionary of the Am. Language: (n.) 1. a head covering, usually with a brim and a crown.

The following are not hats: Headbands, visors, bandannas, wigs.
Plain ol' baseball caps are officially out. (GET CREATIVE!!!).

There are no rules for affixing a hat to your head. Recommendations: 1) No staples or nails 2) Glue is effective but messy. 3) When using tape, prewrap is strongly advised. A hat is "on" when it's on your head. - If you have a hat on under another hat, the hat on top is the one that counts. Remember: its funny if your hat falls off, don't get mad - laugh.

A Few Final Notes:

HHH is designed to encompass the best things ulti has to offer in a setting that makes the individual even more accountable than in the ordinary team setting.

! ! ! Be Careful - Don't get so caught up in competing that you make a dangerous play.
This is especially important in Co-ed ulti with folks of varying abilities, shapes and sizes (think physics).
Use your field sense to be aware of others.

Another individual "little thing" with huge impact is getting to the fields to play when the schedule says.

Teams are 16 players this year, so playing time will be a premium.

Last of the spew... Thank YOU! Thank you each and all. Without each individual there is no
Hats, Hops & Hucks !

Here's wishes for straight throws & lots of grass stains. peace...! Mo
